Individual Health Insurance is a good option when it is avaialbe to the consumer, but there are low cost options for health insurance in the State of Michigan as well. MIChild, Children’s Health Insurance Program offers affordable children plans for income based qualifying individuals. MIChild offers Check ups, shots, ER care, dental, RX, hospitalization, prenatal care, vision and hearing, mental health and substance abuse help to name a few.

There are some plans for low income individuals through MDCH, Michigan Dept of Community Health as well. You must qualify for these programs. The Michigan Department of Human Services determines eligibility for such programs.

The Michigan Department of Community Health website offers a vast amount of great information for the Michigan consumer sorting through healthcare options. You can even get information on providers and individual carriers in our area. It is a great source of information for those who can not afford health insurance.

Overall Michigan wants to ensure that not one person goes uninsured. Currently there are 11.4% of Michigan residents uninsured. Most likely they just do not have the resources to find what fits their needs and/or budget.
